Q&A: Trinity Catholic quarterback John Brantley
FloridaFB.com: So you’re committed to Texas, correct? Nothing has changed right?
Brantley: No sir.
FloridaFB.com: Not wavering?
Brantley: *laughs* Not at all.
FloridaFB.com: When was the last time you were in Austin?
Brantley: I went up for the Ohio State game and I’ll make my official visit in December.
FloridaFB.com: So what do you and the rest of the team have to work on for the reminder of the season if you plan on repeating at 2B champions?
Brantley: We’ve got to come out with fire; we came out a little slow tonight. We need to play like we did last week against Suwannee when we came out ready to play and get it going from the beginning.
FloridaFB.com: The next game is against Gulf and they’ve got a good quarterback as well, Alton Voss, what are your thoughts on him?
Brantley: He’s a good quarterback. I’ve heard he’s gotten a lot better. He’s real fast and he did all right against us last year and I know he’s gotten a lot better so we’ll need to be ready to play.
FloridaFB.com: Obviously Trinity Catholic is one of the favorites in 2B along with Pahokee, the team you defeated in last year’s final. How hard is it not to look ahead to the potential rematch?
Brantley: We’ve got to look at it one week at a time and if we’re going to win another state title we’ve got to worry about next week and the week after. We’ve got a long way to go before we can start thinking about the title game or Pahokee.
FloridaFB.com: I’ve heard a lot of big name coaches come out to Trinity games. But they are not here to see you right?
Brantley: *laughs* Nope they are here for the other guys like Dion [Lecorn], I’m done.
FloridaF.com: Speaking of your teammate, has he given you any hints on where he’s going? We won’t tell anyone.
Brantley: *laughs* He’s real quiet about it; I’m not going to lie. He tells you the school he likes and that’s it.
FloridaFB.com: Now there’s no one on the Texas roster from Florida so basically you’re carrying the entire state on your shoulders. But that’s no pressure right?
Brantley: *laughs* It’s pretty cool to be recruited by them and be the only kid from Florida. It’s a real special thing to be headed out there.
FloridaFB.com: They have also changed up their offense with the change at QB. It seems like they are really letting Colt McCoy throw the ball around.
Brantley: That’s one of the things I’m real excited about; they said they will tailor the offense around the strengths of the QB. Vince could do it all and they put him in a position to be successful while Colt is a more of a classic drop-back passer and they’ve changed things to suit him. The coaches at Texas are wonderful.
FloridaFB.com: Well there’s no doubt you’ll be successful so we just wish you a lot of luck and thanks for taking the time to talk with us.
Brantley: Thank you, take care.
